Astia to partner with Google for Entrepreneurs to promote women-led startups

New Partnership Will Triple the Amount of Promising Woman-led companies from around the World Who Are Able To Participate in Astia Venture Lunches Series.

While women are creating new companies at record pace, the growth trajectory of these companies are not keeping up with their male counterparts. Yet data shows that those female entrepreneurs who are successful at accessing networks and capital perform on par or exceed their male counterparts. Astia’s mission to is to significantly reduce this gender growth gap for women-led start-ups and we are excited to announce a new partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs to advance high potential women-led companies from start-up to scale.

We believe that it makes absolutely no sense that women account for less than 5% of venture-backed companies while at the same time they account for over half the college graduates and graduate degree participants. Astia is excited to be working with Google for Entrepreneurs to increase our impact. It is our belief that with this support we can triple the number of companies we showcase each year. Google for Entrepreneurs will work with Astia to scale the frequency and city coverage of the acclaimed Astia Venture Lunch Global Series which advances female entrepreneurs by giving them increased access to investors and strengthening their business network. Google for Entrepreneurs will support these entrepreneurs through customized programs, network of partners and products.

Astia has a strong track record of sourcing, selecting and showcasing exceptional female entrepreneurs and connecting them to the investor community. In 2013, 75% of the Astia Venture Lunch participants received investor interest. Entrepreneurs with an innovative product or offering in a high-growth sector such as technology, life science, clean tech, consumer products and who qualify can apply via the Astia website (http://astia.org/content/view/600/877/). Qualifying applicants are high-growth businesses ready for equity funding with at least one woman in a c-level position or equity stake.
